Sitting in a “comfortable” position actually hurts your back

What is good posture? Two points: the physiological curvature of the spine and the pressure on the discs.

If you look closely at a model of the human skeleton, you will see that while the spine is straight from the front, the side shows a small S-curve lengthened lengthwise, what we call a physiological curve.

The spine of an adult is made up of 24 overlapping cylindrical vertebrae, the sacrum, and the tailbone. The cartilaginous joints between the two adjacent vertebrae are called intervertebral discs. The significance of the intervertebral disc, in fact, is to enable the vertebrae to have a certain degree of motion, which shows its importance.

You must have experienced this: while sitting, the body will unconsciously go limp, until the waist completely suspended "stuck" in the chair, and you will find that the spine has lost its normal physiological curvature when touching your back. At this point, an abnormal pressure is distributed across the disc. In the long run, it will offend it, thus affecting the degree of activity of the vertebrae, the results can be imagined.

Some people like to put their hands in front of the computer and curl up. This action will make the thoracic vertebrae too curved, the curvature of the cervical spine becomes smaller, which makes the lumbar curve become smaller and too straight. For a long time, this may also cause lumbar problems.

The so-called good sitting posture is to maintain the normal physiological curvature of the spine of the body, to produce the most appropriate pressure, distributed on the intervertebral disc between the vertebrae, at the same time, the distribution of appropriate and uniform static load on the attached muscle tissue.

In addition to good posture, you need to get yourself an ergonomic office chair.
The main function of the ergonomic chair is to provide basic support for the waist by using the lumbar support. By balancing the force, the back presents an S-shaped curve on the back of the chair, reducing the pressure of the lumbar spine until it is close to the standard standing posture. In addition to the presence of lumbar support, the curved design of the back of the chair more in line with the natural state of the human body's spinal curvature, the better.
