Choosing an office chair with lumbar support

If you work in an office or at home, you will probably spend most of your time in sitting. According to a survey, the average office worker sits for 6.5 hours a day. Over the course of a year, about 1,700 hours are spent sitting.

But whether you spend more or less time on sitting, you can protect yourself from joint pain and even improve your productivity by buying a high-quality office chair. You'll be able to work more efficiently and not suffer from the herniated discs and other sedentary ailments that many office workers are prone to.

When choosing an office chair, consider whether it provides lumbar support. Some people think that low back pain only happens when doing heavy work, such as construction or manufacturing workers, but actually office workers are the most prone to sedentary low back pain. According to a study of nearly 700 office workers, 27% of them suffer from low back pain and cervical spondylosis each year.

To reduce the risk of lower back pain, choose an office chair with lumbar support. Lumbar support is the padding around the bottom of the backrest that supports the lumbar area of the back (the back area between the chest and pelvic area). It stabilizes your lower back, thereby reducing stress and tension on the spine and its supporting structures.
